Getting started
From install to a live loyalty program in four steps. The app walks you through the same steps on its Setup page and keeps them there until they're done.
Before you install
- Shopify Flow is only needed if you want to email customers about their rewards. Everything else works without it.
1. Install
Install TierWise from the Shopify App Store and approve the permissions. TierWise reads your store's timezone and currency and starts importing your order history in the background. Large stores take a few minutes.
2. Name your tiers
Open Settings. There are three tiers, called Bronze, Silver and Gold at $200, $500 and $750 of yearly spend until you change them. For each tier you can set:
- Name, which becomes the customer tag, for example
loyalty-gold. - Spend to reach in a calendar year. Each tier must need more than the one below.
- Can also be reached by placing enough orders, for example 3 orders in a year.
- Gives a reward code, as a percentage or a fixed amount off.
Click Save. The day you first save is when your program starts: only orders from then on earn reward codes. See Reward codes.
3. Sync your customers
Click Start sync. TierWise works out every customer's tier from their order history and writes their tags and loyalty fields to Shopify. Progress shows on the page, and a sync that stops for any reason carries on from where it left off.
The sync never creates reward codes and never sends events to Flow. A customer who already qualified before you launched is recognised with their tier, not flooded with codes.
4. Add the Rewards page
The Rewards page is a block for your theme, so it goes on a page of your own and looks like the rest of your store. There are two ways to set it up.
Let the app do it
On the app's Setup page, step 3 has three buttons:
- Create the page. The app adds a Rewards page to your store with its own layout, so the block only ever shows on this page.
- Add the block. Opens the page in your theme editor with the Rewards block already on it. Pick a colour, press Save, and come back to the app. It sees the block and marks the step done.
- Add to the menu. Optional. Puts a Rewards link in your main menu. Any other link to the page works just as well.
The app asks for permission to write pages, navigation and theme files for this. The only theme file it ever creates is the page's own template; nothing existing is changed.
Or do it by hand
If you'd rather not grant those permissions, or you want full control, this is what the buttons do:
- Make a page. Online Store → Pages → Add page. Call it "Rewards" and save.
- Give it its own template. Online Store → Themes → the three dots on your live theme → Edit code → Templates → Add a new template → type "page", format JSON, name "rewards" → Done. Then back in Pages, open Rewards, set Theme template to "rewards", save. This keeps the block off your other pages.
- Add the block. Online Store → Themes → Edit theme, open the Rewards page, Add section → Apps → Rewards page. Pick the accent colour and width, and save.
- Share the link. The page is live at your store's address followed by
/pages/rewards. Put that link wherever customers will find it: a menu item (Content → Menus → Main menu → Add menu item → Pages → Rewards), a footer link, an email, anywhere.
Signed-out visitors see a sign-in button that brings them back to the page. See Rewards page & storefront bar for the settings.
5. Press All done
When the three steps are done, the All done button at the bottom of Setup turns on. Press it and the rest of the app appears: Members, Analytics, Integrations and Settings. Until then the app shows only the checklist, so you can leave and come back without losing your place.
Optional extras
- Storefront rewards bar. A small bar reminding signed-in members of the codes they hold. See Storefront bar.
- Emails. Build a Shopify Flow workflow on TierWise's events, or send them on to Klaviyo. See Shopify Flow and Klaviyo.
What happens on its own
- Every new, edited, cancelled or deleted order updates that customer within seconds: tier, tags, fields and any reward code the order earned.
- Each January TierWise reviews the year that ended and updates every member for the new one.
- Each December it tells Flow which members are about to lose their tier, so you can remind them.
